About this project
OmniShelf is an independent, open-source ebook reader for Android and this site is its notebook. Both are maintained by a small group of people who read a lot and got tired of watching the reading experience degrade.
Who runs it
The project is maintained by the OmniShelf maintainers — the same people who write the code, answer the mail and publish these notes. There is no company behind it, no investor, and no advertising business attached to the application. The work is done in the open: every change to the reader is a public commit at github.com/tt7247129-sys/omnishelf, and the licence is the AGPLv3.
You can reach a person, not a form, at hello@omnishelf.cc. Mail is read by the maintainers; most messages get an answer within a few days.
Why this site exists
An app store listing has room for a feature list and nothing else. It cannot explain why paragraph reflow breaks citations, why a highlight that reads well in colour vanishes on an e-ink screen, or why a page-turn gesture that works on a tablet fails on a phone held in one hand. Those are the decisions that actually determine whether reading feels right, and they need paragraphs, not bullets.
So the notes live here: long-form, specific, and written after the fact rather than as marketing copy before it. When we get something wrong, the correction is published in the same place.
How it is funded
The application is free and has no advertising, no purchases and no subscription. Development is unpaid work by the maintainers, and the infrastructure — a repository, a static site, a domain — costs very little.
This website may in future carry third-party advertising to cover that small cost. If it does, the advertising will be clearly separated from the text, it will never appear inside an article, and the privacy policy will describe it before it is deployed. The application itself will not contain advertising under any circumstances; that promise is the reason the project exists.
What OmniShelf is not
It is not the official Librera app. OmniShelf began as a fork of the open-source Librera Reader project, and the debt is acknowledged in the app’s notice file and in the repository. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Librera’s author.
It is also not connected to any other company, product or service that happens to use the name OmniShelf. The name was chosen for this project; any similarity to an unrelated product is coincidental and does not imply a relationship.
Corrections
These notes make technical claims. If one of them is wrong — a rendering behaviour, a file-format detail, a statement about how another reader works — write to hello@omnishelf.cc with the specific sentence. Corrections are published with a visible note rather than edited away silently.
